Our take

Who this one is for

A second-year Stratocaster in DLX Closet Classic trim, the light aging of a guitar that spent most of its life in the case. Two-piece select ash with the offset seam, a 1-ply eggshell pickguard and a one-piece plain-grain maple neck set the mid-fifties look.

The neck has the 11/56 Off Center "V" carve, a V that sits slightly off centre, on a 9.5" radius with narrow tall 6105 frets. That is flatter and taller than a 1955 original, which makes bends easier while keeping the period neck shape. Three Custom Shop Hand-Wound '55 Single-Coil Strat pickups, with a reverse-wound, reverse-polarity middle, run through a five-way blade, and the second tone control works on the bridge pickup.

For a more strictly vintage take, the Vintage Custom 1955 Stratocaster is the alternative, and the 1957 Stratocaster Heavy Relic adds heavy wear. Finishes are Faded Aged Chocolate 2-Color Sunburst, Faded Aged Dirty White Blonde and Faded Aged Fiesta Red.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
