Our take

Who this one is for

The 1959 Telecaster is a transitional year, and this model keeps its quirks: a 1-piece rift sawn maple neck with a Large "C" back and a narrower 1.625" nut, a single-ply parchment pickguard, and a bridge that can be strung either top-load or through the body, so you can try both and pick the feel you like. The body is 2-piece select ash in Journeyman Relic aging.

Two Custom Shop Hand-Wound Texas Special Single-Coil Tele pickups sit in a standard modern three-way: bridge, both, neck. The 9.5" radius and narrow tall frets make it comfortable for bends, and the Large "C" fills the hand without the point of a V.

The 1958 Top-Load Telecaster Journeyman Relic is the year before, with a soft V neck and the old fixed-tone wiring. The Vintage Custom '59 Esquire is the single-pickup take on the same year. For an early '60s rosewood Tele, look at the 1961 Telecaster Heavy Relic.

Three finishes: Faded Aged Chocolate 3-Color Sunburst, Natural Blonde and Aged White Blonde, all with a maple neck.

The photos show one example. Wood grain and aging vary from guitar to guitar, so the one built for you will differ in the details.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. After you order, we check with the supplier and email you an ETA. If it changes, we let you know, and you can cancel.

Want an estimate for this model before you order? Ask us in the chat.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
