Our take

Who this one is for

An early '60s Jazz Bass under Heavy Relic aging: deep dings, checking and discoloured hardware. The body is 2-piece select alder or ash depending on finish, the neck is quartersawn maple with a 1960 Jazz Bass "U" back and a flat-laminated 3A Rosewood board, and the Shell Pink and Daphne Blue versions get a matching painted headstock as the originals did.

Two Custom Shop Hand-Wound Vintage Jazz Bass pickups sit under a 4-ply brown shell pickguard. The 1.5" nut is the narrow J Bass width, and the 7.25" radius feels rounder under the hand than most modern basses. Jescar Medium Vintage frets give a touch more height than the narrowest vintage wire.

The 1960 Journeyman Relic Jazz Bass is the year before with lighter wear and a flatter 9.5" radius. For a mid '60s J, look at the 1965 Jazz Bass Journeyman Relic or the 1966 Jazz Bass Journeyman Relic.

Three finishes: Faded Aged Daphne Blue, 3-Color Sunburst and Super Faded Aged Shell Pink.

The photos show one example. Wood grain and aging vary from bass to bass, so the one built for you will differ in the details.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. After you order, we check with the supplier and email you an ETA. If it changes, we let you know, and you can cancel.

Want an estimate for this model before you order? Ask us in the chat.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
