Our take

Who this one is for

An early '60s Stratocaster in Relic aging, with a 2-piece select alder body with an offset seam, a 3-ply mint green pickguard and a maple neck carved to a '60s Oval "C" under a 3A Rosewood board. The 7.25" to 9.5" compound radius feels round and vintage near the nut and flattens out higher up, so bends are less likely to choke.

The pickups are Custom Shop Hand-Wound Fat '60s Single-Coil Strat, middle reverse-wound and reverse-polarity, on Vintage Modified #2 wiring with a Greasebucket tone control and a treble-bleed on the master volume. The wiring blends in the neck pickup in positions 1 and 2, which a stock Strat can't do, and Tone 2 gives the bridge its own tone control.

The 1960 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic is close in spirit with a straight 9.5" radius and '60s pickups. For heavier wear look at the 1963 Stratocaster Super Heavy Relic, and for the same year with no aging, the Vintage Custom 1962 Stratocaster.

Three finishes: Aged Olympic White, Aged Lake Placid Blue and Aged Seminole Red.

The photos show one example. Wood grain and aging vary from guitar to guitar, so the one built for you will differ in the details.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. After you order, we check with the supplier and email you an ETA. If it changes, we let you know, and you can cancel.

Want an estimate for this model before you order? Ask us in the chat.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
