Our take

Who this one is for

The Esquire Custom is the bound-body version of the one-pickup Esquire, and this 1963 build adds a Bigsby vibrato. The pickup is a Custom Shop Hand-Wound Loaded '51 Nocaster in the bridge, on a 2-piece select alder body with a 3-ply mint green pickguard and the light wear of the DLX Closet Classic finish.

The three-way switch works Esquire style: position 1 is the bridge pickup with the tone control out of the circuit, position 2 brings the tone control in, and position 3 is the pickup with a preset treble roll-off for a darker sound. The rift sawn maple neck has a '60s Oval "C" back, a 3A Rosewood board, a 7.25" to 9.5" compound radius and Jescar Medium Vintage frets. It uses an RSD Jaguar/Jazzmaster bridge.

For the original fixed-bridge Esquire, look at the 1956 Esquire Relic with Closet Classic Hardware or the Vintage Custom '59 Esquire. The 1967 Telecaster Bigsby DLX Closet Classic is the two-pickup choice with a Bigsby and the same light aging.

Three finishes: Faded Shell Pink, Black and Faded 3-Color Sunburst.

The photos show one example. Wood grain and aging vary from guitar to guitar, so the one built for you will differ in the details.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. After you order, we check with the supplier and email you an ETA. If it changes, we let you know, and you can cancel.

Want an estimate for this model before you order? Ask us in the chat.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
