Our take

Who this one is for

The 1968 Telecaster Closet Classic is a late sixties Tele with a rosewood board and light Closet Classic aging: a 2-piece select alder body, a maple neck with a '60s Oval "C" back, and a 3-ply white pickguard.

The 3A rosewood board has a 7.25" radius and Jescar Vintage frets, so it feels round under the hand and suits chord work, though bends past a whole step can fret out. Two Custom Shop Hand-Wound '67 Single-Coil Tele pickups run through a 3-position blade with master volume and tone, and the 3-saddle strings-through-body bridge has threaded steel barrel saddles. Vintage-style F tuners.

For a maple board on a 9.5" radius with the same pickups, look at the 1966 Telecaster DLX Closet Classic. The Vintage Custom 68 Telecaster NOS and the 1969 Telecaster NOS are the unaged options from the same years.

Finishes are Super Aged Daphne Blue, Aged Tomatillo Green and Aged Shoreline Gold.

The photos show one example. Wood grain and aging vary from guitar to guitar, so the one built for you will differ in the details.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
