Our take

Who this one is for

The 1975 Jazz Bass NOS is the mid '70s Jazz Bass as it left the factory, with no aging: a two-piece select ash body, a quartersawn maple neck in gloss polyurethane, white pearloid block inlays and a pair of Custom Shop Hand-Wound '75 Single-Coil Jazz Bass pickups.

The 1975 "U" carve is a full, rounded shape, and the 1.5" nut is the narrow Jazz Bass width that makes reaching around the neck easier for many players. The 7.25" radius feels round under the fretting hand. Two volume controls and a master tone let you set the balance between the pickups, and the bridge is a 4-saddle vintage-style unit.

For an earlier Jazz Bass with wear, look at the 1960 Journeyman Relic Jazz Bass or the 1966 Jazz Bass Journeyman Relic. The American Custom Jazz Bass NOS is the other unaged Jazz Bass in the range.

Faded Walnut and Faded Cherry Sunburst come with a 3A rosewood fingerboard, and Faded Natural with maple.

The photos show one example. Wood grain and aging vary from bass to bass, so the one built for you will differ in the details.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. After you order, we check with the supplier and email you an ETA. If it changes, we let you know, and you can cancel.

Want an estimate for this model before you order? Ask us in the chat.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
