Our take

Who this one is for

The American Custom Jazz Bass takes the 1960 layout and builds it with a few modern choices. A lightweight two-piece select ash body, a quartersawn maple neck with the 1960 Jazz Bass "U" carve, and a pair of Custom Shop Hand-Wound Vintage Jazz Bass pickups with a volume for each and a master tone.

The "U" is a full, rounded carve that fills the hand, and the 1.5" bone nut keeps the narrow Jazz Bass feel in first position. A 9.5" radius and 20 Medium Jumbo (6150) frets play flatter than a vintage board. Quartersawn maple is stiffer and more stable through the seasons than flatsawn. An RSD Designed HiMass bridge, gold hardware and white pearloid block inlays finish it.

Two finishes, each with its own fingerboard: Purple Transparent with Quartersawn Maple, or White Blonde with Ebony. For a figured top over the same ash body and neck carve, look at the Artisan Maple Burl Jazz Bass.

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. After you order, we check with the supplier and email you an ETA. If it changes, we let you know, and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
