Our take

Who this one is for

A Custom Shop Jazz Bass built around figured wood: a two-piece select ash body with an offset seam, a 3A roasted flame maple neck and a 3A rosewood board with white pearloid block inlays, all under a Relic nitrocellulose lacquer finish in Honey Burst.

The neck carries a 1960 Jazz Bass "U" back shape, so there is real wood in the hand, with a 1.5" nut, a 9.5" radius and 20 medium jumbo frets. Roasting dries the maple out and makes it more stable through seasonal changes. Two Custom Shop hand-wound Jazz Bass single-coils run through the familiar two volumes and a master tone, and the RSD HiMass bridge adds mass under the strings.

The Artisan Maple Burl Jazz Bass is the same idea without the wear. For a straight vintage Jazz Bass in a relic finish, compare the 1961 Jazz Bass Heavy Relic.

The photos show one example. Wood grain and aging vary from bass to bass, so the one built for you will differ in the details.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. After you order, we check with the supplier and email you an ETA. If it changes, we let you know, and you can cancel.

Want an estimate for this model before you order? Ask us in the chat.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
