Our take

Who this one is for

Built to Eric Clapton's own specs, this is the Custom Shop version of his signature Strat: a select alder body, a soft "V" maple neck and three Vintage Noiseless single-coils, with his signature on the headstock.

The electronics go past a stock Strat. The second knob is a TBX tone control and the third is an active mid boost of up to 25dB, so you can push the front end of an amp from the guitar and still keep the pickups quiet. The tremolo is blocked, which keeps tuning steady and the bridge fixed for heavy bending. The maple board has a 9.5" radius and 22 vintage-style frets, and the neck has a satin urethane finish that stays smooth under a moving hand.

Three finishes are offered: Mercedes Blue, Midnight Blue and Black, all with a maple board. For the same electronics on a two-piece ash body with nitro lacquer and played-in wear, look at the Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster Journeyman Relic.

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. After you order, we check with the supplier and email you an ETA. If it changes, we let you know, and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
