Our take

Who this one is for

The White Blonde Strat with gold hardware became known as the "Mary Kaye" after the guitarist pictured with one in ads of the period, and the Vintage Custom '57 Stratocaster recreates it. An ash body in Aged White Blonde flash coat lacquer, with no aging, gold hardware, a 1-ply parchment pickguard and three Custom Shop Hand-Wound '57 Single-Coil Strat pickups.

The tinted rift sawn maple neck has a 1957 Soft "V" carve, a gentle V that sits between a round and a pointed back. The 7.25" to 9.5" compound radius is rounder near the nut for chords and flatter up the neck for single-note lines, with medium vintage frets. The bridge is a 6-saddle vintage-style synchronized tremolo, with tone controls on the neck and middle pickups.

For the same year with heavy wear, look at the 1957 Stratocaster Heavy Relic. The Vintage Custom 1955 Stratocaster is the earlier year, in sunburst with a fuller "U" neck.

It comes in Aged White Blonde with a maple fingerboard.

The photos show one example. Wood grain and aging vary from guitar to guitar, so the one built for you will differ in the details.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. After you order, we check with the supplier and email you an ETA. If it changes, we let you know, and you can cancel.

Want an estimate for this model before you order? Ask us in the chat.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
