The Runt-20 Combo is Friedman's 20-watt, two-channel Runt in a 1x12 cabinet with a 16 ohm Celestion G12M-65 Creamback. Two EL-84s and three 12AX7s run it. The clean channel is a volume knob and a three-position bright switch, from clean to a slightly broken-up blues or country tone, and the overdrive channel covers vintage rock crunch through modern high gain with its Boost switch and Gain knob.
Like the Runt-20 Head, it has an internal load, so it can be played silently with the speaker disconnected while the cab-simulated XLR output (ground lift, level, center/edge speaker switch) goes to a recorder or the desk. Friedman says the buffered series loop is the same one used across its amplifiers, the BE-100 included, and the front end was designed around pedals.
The Runt-50 Combo is the step up: EL-34 power, a G12H Redback, bass and treble on the clean channel, and 51.5 lbs to the Runt-20's 41.5. If you already own a cab, the Runt-20 Head is the same amp at 22 lbs.
