Provenance

Why this one made the wall

The Nick Lucas Special was Gibson's first signature guitar, built for a man who was selling records in 1929, and it is a deeper-bodied small guitar than anything else of the period. That depth is the whole instrument: a 13.5" lower bout with a body that keeps getting deeper toward the tailpiece, which is why a guitar this size puts out what it does.

Mahogany body with a thermally aged red spruce top, Light Aged. The appointments are where the money went, and they are all still here: mother of pearl Nick Lucas inlays with the engraving intact, gold sparkle binding and an L-2 style rosette with the same sparkle running through it, gold Waverly tuners with ivory oval buttons.

Rosewood board over 20 frets, C profile, 24.75" scale. Rosewood bridge with an open lock, bone saddle and nut.

Frequently asked

Questions we get

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

What does the free setup cover?

Every instrument crosses Ian Vance's bench before it ships, and on an online order that setup is free.

What it covers depends on what the guitar needs. Frets, fretboard, hardware, fresh strings, truss rod, action, nut slots, intonation, pickup height and electronics are all part of it, and none of it is an upcharge. The menu above shows the choices you get to make.

Ian's work is described on Repairs and tuning.

What if it is not right when it arrives?

You have 48 hours from the moment it arrives to decide. Email shop@lauzonmusic.com inside that window and we will authorize the return. Nothing comes back unauthorized.

Exchange it for something else and there is no restocking fee, though you cover the shipping on the instrument going back. On a straight refund it is 10% plus the actual shipping both ways.

The full terms are on Shipping and returns.

Can I pay for it over time?

Canadian buyers can pay over time with PayPlan by RBC, chosen as the payment method at checkout. The exact terms come from RBC and are shown to you before you agree to anything.

Financing never changes the price of the guitar. More on Financing.
