Our take

Who this one is for

The Next Generation 454ce is a 12-string Grand Auditorium in solid Indian rosewood and Sitka spruce, with V-Class bracing and two features new to this model: the Action Control Neck and Claria electronics. The Action Control Neck lets string height be adjusted quickly, and its long-tenon joint adds low-end resonance. Claria gives a predictable plugged-in sound that's easy to dial in, for the player and for whoever is running the desk.

V-Class is there for projection, sustain and pitch accuracy, and on a 12-string the pitch accuracy is what keeps the pairs agreeing as you move up the neck. Taylor voices the rosewood and spruce for clear trebles, warm lows and plenty of overtone around the octave strings.

The appointments are Weathervane inlays on the fretboard and peghead, black binding with black and white top trim, a firestripe pickguard and nickel tuners, all under a full gloss finish. For the same woods with maple binding, an abalone rosette, Element inlays and a rosewood armrest, look at the Next Generation 854ce. For Honduran rosewood and Adirondack spruce, the Next Generation PS54ce.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
