Our take

Who this one is for

The Legacy 855e is a twelve-string Jumbo, a nod to the easy-playing twelve-strings that made Taylor's name early on. The large body suits a twelve-string, and Taylor credits its air chamber with plenty of power while staying responsive to a light touch.

Indian rosewood back and sides and a Sitka spruce top on traditional X-bracing give a clear, balanced voice, with warm lows and bright, chiming octaves on top. The neck is Taylor's modern carve, 1-7/8" at the nut to give the paired strings room, and it's strung with lights (.010 to .047).

Older details include a straight-ear peghead with a rosewood veneer and an ebony mustache bridge. White binding, a three-ring green abalone rosette, Large Diamond inlays in mother-of-pearl and a tortoise pickguard follow the look of Bob Taylor's early builds, in gloss on the body and neck. An LR Baggs Element VTC pickup with soundhole controls handles the amplified sound.

For a twelve-string Grand Auditorium in the same woods, with a cutaway, V-Class bracing and Claria electronics, look at the Next Generation 854ce. The Legacy 815e is this Jumbo body as a six-string.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
