Our take

Who this one is for

The CE 24 puts PRS's traditional pairing of a maple top on a mahogany back together with a bolt-on maple neck. PRS introduced the original CE in 1988, and this version runs 24 frets on a 25" scale, with a violin-carved top, a rosewood fretboard and Birds.

The Pattern Thin neck measures 53/64" deep at the first fret, 1 11/16" at the nut, with a 10" radius and a satin nitro finish on the back. Two uncovered 85/15 pickups, which PRS designed for clarity across an extended high and low end, run through a volume, a 3-way toggle and a push/pull on the tone knob that turns three switch positions into six sounds. A PRS Patented Tremolo and Phase III locking tuners complete the hardware.

This is the guitar for someone who likes the snap of a bolt-on neck but wants a carved top and a pair of humbuckers. The CE 24 Semi-Hollow shares its neck, pickups and hardware in a semi-hollow body, and the Swamp Ash Special adds a Narrowfield in the middle. Our pick is Faded Gray Black Purple Burst, which we think shows off the violin carve better than any other colour on the list.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
