The Studio is PRS's single-single-hum guitar. Two Narrowfield pickups sit in the middle and bass positions with a McCarty III humbucker at the treble, on a maple-topped mahogany body with a 22-fret, 25" scale Pattern neck and Birds on rosewood.
The 5-way blade and a push/pull tone control open up seven pickup combinations, from the Narrowfields on their own to the full humbucker at the bridge. PRS describes the McCarty III as a vintage-inspired humbucker with vocal clarity over a full, warm tone. The Pattern neck is 7/8" deep at the first fret, fuller than the 53/64" Pattern Thin, so there's more wood to fill the hand.
It suits a player who wants three-pickup sounds and a proper bridge humbucker, with the Gen III tremolo and Phase III Locking Tuners keeping it in tune. Its closest relative is the Special Semi-Hollow, which goes hum/single/hum on a semi-hollow body. The Custom 24 is the comparison if you'd rather have two pickups and 24 frets.
