Our take

Who this one is for

The CE 24 Semi-Hollow builds the CE 24's maple-over-mahogany body as a semi-hollow, with a single f-hole cut into the top. Everything else carries over: a bolt-on maple neck, 24 frets on a 25" scale and a rosewood board with Birds.

A semi-hollow body has an open chamber inside it instead of solid wood all the way through, and PRS's aim here is to put that resonance behind the snap of a bolt-on neck. The two 85/15s, voiced for clarity at the top and bottom of their range, are wired to a volume, a 3-way toggle and a push/pull tone for six sounds. The Pattern Thin carve, 10" radius and PRS Patented Tremolo match the solidbody.

We'd steer a player here who wants the CE 24's neck and electronics with a chamber in the body. If you're weighing the two, play them side by side, since the hollow is the only real difference between them. For single coils, the Silver Sky and the Fiore are the places to look in the same line. Our pick is Carroll Blue, a colour we like even more with an f-hole cut through it.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
