Our take

Who this one is for

The S2 Vela Semi-Hollow takes PRS's offset Vela and gives it a semi-hollow mahogany body with a single f-hole, which PRS credits with added resonance. It keeps the Vela's set mahogany neck, 22 frets on a 25" scale, and pickguard-loaded electronics: a PRS DS-01 in the treble position and a PRS Narrowfield in the bass.

The plate-style bridge is a nod to Paul's early designs and to traditional plate-style bass bridges. It loads from the top for easy restringing, uses brass saddles on a steel plate, and its two saddles are compensated for intonation. A push/pull on the tone control taps the DS-01 to a single coil, and a 3-way toggle selects the pickups.

This is the Vela for players who want some air in the body. The solidbody S2 Vela has the same electronics and bridge without the chamber. The S2 Special Semi-Hollow takes another route to a semi-hollow S2, with a maple top, three pickups and a tremolo. The S2 Vela Semi-Hollow Satin is this model in a low-sheen finish.

Our pick is Platinum Metallic. A metallic finish with an f-hole cut through it is an unusual combination, and on an offset it works.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
