Who this one is for

The Special Semi-Hollow is a hum/single/hum PRS built on a semi-hollow body with a single f-hole. Two McCarty III humbuckers sit at the bass and treble with a Narrowfield between them, on a maple top over mahogany, with a 22-fret Pattern mahogany neck on a 25" scale and the Gen III tremolo.

The 5-way blade and two mini-toggles that tap the McCarty IIIs give twelve pickup combinations. PRS says the Narrowfield brings single-coil bite without the hum, and that the volume stays even between humbucking and single-coil settings, so switching mid-song doesn't mean riding the volume knob. In PRS's words, the semi-hollow body adds airiness and depth.

It suits a player who wants the range of a three-pickup PRS with the openness of a semi-hollow. The Studio is the solidbody to compare, with Narrowfields in two positions and one McCarty III. The DGT Semi-Hollow is another Core semi-hollow with the same single f-hole and two pickups. Our pick is Cobalt Smokeburst, because a deep blue burst around that f-hole is a good look.

PRS lists the upgrade on this model as "10 Top and Back with Hybrid Hardware", against the Standard figured maple top. The 10 Top is PRS's term for a higher grade of figured maple.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
