Our take

Who this one is for

The S2 Special Semi-Hollow puts a three-pickup layout into a semi-hollow body with a single f-hole. A 58/15 LT humbucker sits in each of the bass and treble positions with a PRS Narrowfield between them, under a maple top on a mahogany back. The neck is set mahogany with the Pattern Regular carve, 22 frets on a 25" scale and "Old School" Birds on rosewood.

The switching sets this guitar apart. The 5-way blade selects pickups and two mini-toggles tap the humbuckers, which PRS counts as twelve pickup combinations in all. PRS also says the semi-hollow build adds air and depth and helps sustain. The Pattern Regular neck measures 27/32" at the first fret and 59/64" at the twelfth, a rounder handful than PRS's Pattern Thin, and the PRS Patented Tremolo is paired with Phase III Locking Tuners.

This suits a player who wants a semi-hollow with a tremolo and a lot of choices on the pickup switch. If you'd rather have a solidbody with a single humbucker, the S2 Studio shares the Narrowfield middle pickup and the Pattern Regular neck. Our pick is Dark Cherry Sunburst. On a body with an f-hole, a cherry burst looks right at home.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
