Our take

Who this one is for

Here is the S2 Vela Semi-Hollow in satin. It has the same semi-hollow mahogany body with a single f-hole and the same offset outline, in a low-sheen satin nitro finish. The set mahogany neck has a Pattern Regular carve, 22 frets and a 25" scale.

The treble position holds a PRS DS-01 and the bass position a PRS Narrowfield, both on the pickguard, with a push/pull tone control that splits the DS-01. The plate-style bridge is top-loading, with two compensated brass saddles on a steel plate. PRS Phase III Non-Locking Tuners round out the hardware, all in nickel.

If you want a semi-hollow offset with a finish that stays out of the way, this is the one. The gloss S2 Vela Semi-Hollow offers a different set of colours, including Platinum Metallic. For a satin Vela with a solid body, compare the S2 Vela Satin, which shares the pickups and bridge.

Our pick is Pearl White. A light finish shows off the f-hole and the offset curves, and the satin keeps the white soft instead of bright.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
