Our take

Who this one is for

The Custom 24-08 keeps the Custom 24's body, neck and hardware and rethinks the electronics. Figured maple over mahogany, a Pattern Thin mahogany neck with 24 frets on a 25" scale, the Gen III tremolo and Phase III Locking Tuners all carry over. In place of the DMOs and the blade there's a pair of TCI pickups, a 3-way toggle and two EQ mini-toggles.

PRS designed the TCI pickups for a full, musical sound that calls to mind single coils and soapbars. Each mini-toggle is a high-pass filter tuned by PRS. Flip one up and it takes out the shelved low end, so the sound reads brighter and clearer without touching the tone knob.

It suits a player who likes the Custom 24 and wants more voices out of two pickups. Play it next to the Custom 24 with its DMO pickups and 5-way blade, and the Modern Eagle V, which uses TCI pickups and the same EQ toggles with a middle pickup added. Our pick is Charcoal Burst, which looks right with the nickel hardware.

For the top, Standard is PRS's figured maple and the 10 Top steps up to a higher grade of figure, with hybrid hardware on the 10 Top version.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
