Our take

Who this one is for

The Mark Holcomb is the PRS signature model of Periphery guitarist Mark Holcomb, and it is built for heavy modern playing, tuned to Drop C and strung with PRS Signature 10-52s on a 25.5" scale. The top is mango over a mahogany back, the neck is one-piece maple with an ebony fretboard, and the finish is satin nitro with satin black hardware.

The 20" fretboard radius is very flat, chosen by PRS for speed and precision. Neck depth is 53/64" at the first fret, with jumbo frets. Holcomb's Seymour Duncan signature pickups are the "Scarlet" in the bass position and the "Scourge" in the treble, wired to one volume, one tone and a 5-way blade, with both humbuckers in position three and coil-split sounds in positions two and four. The PRS Plate Style bridge loads the strings through the body.

This is the PRS for players in drop tunings who want 24 frets and a longer scale to keep the low strings taut. Compare it with the PRS Mark Tremonti, which shares the 53/64" neck depth but sits on a 25" scale with 22 frets, rosewood and standard tuning. Our pick is Holcomb Wraparound Blue Burst, one of the two finishes named for him and our favourite against satin black hardware.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
