The Modern Eagle V is a hum/single/hum PRS with five coils to work with: TCI pickups at the treble and bass and an NS-01 in the middle. It sits on a maple top over mahogany, with a 22-fret Pattern mahogany neck on a 25" scale, a bone nut and PRS Vintage fret wire. Paul Reed Smith calls it sophisticated in its electronic and mechanical design as well as its craftsmanship.
The 5-way blade steps through treble, treble and middle, middle, middle and bass, and bass. Pull the tone knob and both humbuckers switch on, so all three pickups play at once. Two EQ mini-toggles act as tuned high-pass filters, and with one up the low end is trimmed for a clearer top.
It's for the player who likes to shape the sound at the guitar more than at the pedalboard. Compare it with the Custom 24-08, which shares the TCI pickups and EQ toggles in a two-pickup, 24-fret guitar, and the Special Semi-Hollow for hum/single/hum on a semi-hollow body. Our pick is River Blue Pearl, a cool blue that looks sharp beside the nickel hardware.
The Top option is Standard figured maple or PRS's 10 Top, a higher grade of figure.
