Our take

Who this one is for

The NF 53 Satin is the satin-finish version of the PRS NF 53, finished in satin nitro instead of high gloss and offered in a different set of colours. The guitar underneath is the same 1953-inspired design: a flat-top swamp ash body, a bolt-on maple neck and a maple fretboard.

Two Narrowfield DD pickups, wound on taller bobbins with steel pieces between the magnets, are there to give you single-coil sounds with no hum. They run through a 3-way blade with one volume and one tone. The Pattern 53 neck carries 22 PRS Medium frets on a 25.5" scale and a 10" radius, and the bridge is a steel plate with brass saddles.

Choose between this and the gloss NF 53 on sheen and colour. Satin sits lower in lustre than gloss, and Matcha Green and Red Apple Metallic are on this list only. Our pick is Matcha Green, which we think looks right on a shape with this much history. For Narrowfields with more switching, look at the Myles Kennedy.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
