Our take

Who this one is for

The S2 Custom 24 is PRS's original model, the Custom 24, built in the US as part of the S2 line. It has a maple top on a mahogany back with PRS's asymmetric bevel carve, a set mahogany neck with 24 frets on a 25" scale, Birds on rosewood and the PRS Patented Tremolo, all under high-gloss nitro.

The Pattern Thin carve is 53/64" deep at the first fret, which suits a player who likes a slim neck and moves around the board a lot. The two 85/15 humbuckers are uncovered and wound in Maryland, and PRS voices them for clarity with extended highs and lows. On the 5-way blade, position 2 pairs the treble humbucker with the bass pickup as a single coil and position 3 runs both humbuckers, which PRS says gives the same sounds as the core Custom 24.

Pick it if you want the PRS feel with a tremolo and the pickup layout that set the brand's sound. If you like the body and neck but want a different pickup voice, look at the S2 Custom 24-08, which swaps the 85/15s for TCI pickups and adds two EQ mini-toggles. Our pick is Faded Gray Black Purple Burst. The purple at the edges gives the top some depth under the gloss, and it's a finish you won't see on every wall.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
