Our take

Who this one is for

The S2 Custom 24-08 keeps the S2 Custom 24's body, neck and hardware and rethinks the electronics. You still get a maple top on a mahogany back, a set Pattern Thin neck with 24 frets on a 25" scale, Birds on rosewood, the PRS Patented Tremolo and Phase III Locking Tuners. The change is a pair of TCI pickups wound in Maryland, run through a 3-way toggle and two mini-toggle EQ switches.

PRS describes the TCI pickups as reaching from snappy single-coil sounds to full, soapbar-style tones. Flip a mini-toggle up and it acts as a tuned high-pass filter, shelving off low end and letting the highs through for a clearer top. The neck, the 10" radius and the .104" by .047" fret wire are shared with the S2 Custom 24, so the two feel the same in the hand.

Pick the 24-08 if you want the Custom 24 feel but lean toward single-coil and soapbar voices, and like having a quick way to trim the low end. If you'd rather have PRS's 85/15 humbuckers and a 5-way blade, the S2 Custom 24 is the same guitar with that setup. Our pick here is Black Amber, a dark finish that puts the attention on the bird inlays and the nickel hardware.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
