The S2 Standard 22 is PRS's all-mahogany solidbody from the US-made S2 series. A mahogany body with an asymmetric bevel meets a set mahogany neck carved to the Pattern Regular shape, with 22 frets on a 25" scale, a pair of 58/15 LT humbuckers and a PRS Patented Tremolo.
Pattern Regular is the fuller of the two S2 carves, 27/32" deep at the first fret and 59/64" at the twelfth, so there is real wood in the hand. The 5-way blade gets more out of two pickups than a three-way would: in position 2 the treble humbucker runs with the bass pickup as a single coil. Phase III Locking Tuners hold the string at the post, which is what you want on a guitar with a tremolo.
We'd point this one at players who like a 22-fret neck with some depth to it and a bird-inlaid rosewood board. If you'd rather have two more frets and a slimmer carve, the S2 Standard 24 is the Pattern Thin version of the same mahogany recipe. The S2 Standard 22 Satin covers the low-sheen side with its own colours.
Our pick is Dark Cherry Sunburst. It's the most traditional colour on the gloss list, and it looks right on an all-mahogany guitar with birds down the board.
