Our take

Who this one is for

This is the satin-finish version of the PRS S2 Standard 22. Underneath it is the same guitar: a solid mahogany body, a set mahogany neck with PRS's Pattern Regular carve, 22 frets, a 25" scale, two 58/15 LT humbuckers and the PRS Patented Tremolo. The difference is a low-sheen satin nitro finish, which PRS describes as stripped-down in look and roadworthy in feel.

The neck measures 1 21/32" at the nut and 27/32" deep at the first fret, a rounder handful than the Pattern Thin on the 24-fret Standards. The 10" radius sits between the rounder boards of vintage guitars and the flatter boards of modern ones. A volume, a tone and a 5-way blade handle the controls, with position 3 giving you both humbuckers together.

Choose the satin if you want the S2 Standard 22 with less shine and a different set of colours. The gloss S2 Standard 22 has its own six, including Dark Cherry Sunburst, and the S2 Standard 24 Satin gives you 24 frets and a slimmer neck in the same finish.

Our pick is Matcha Green. It's a colour none of the gloss S2 models carry, and it sits nicely against the nickel hardware and rosewood board.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
