Our take

Who this one is for

PRS introduced the original Standard in 1987, grown out of the all-mahogany guitars Paul Smith built before there was a factory. The S2 Standard 24 brings that idea into the S2 series: a solid mahogany body, a set mahogany neck with 24 frets on a 25" scale, two 58/15 LT humbuckers and a PRS Patented Tremolo, with the electronics mounted on the pickguard.

The Pattern Thin neck is 53/64" deep at the first fret and 57/64" at the twelfth, a shallower carve than the Pattern Regular, though a hair wider at the nut at 1 11/16". Paired with 24 frets, that gives you two full octaves on a slim neck. The 5-way blade adds split-coil sounds, so in position 2 the bass pickup drops to a single coil alongside the full treble humbucker.

This is the Standard for players who live in the upper register. The S2 Standard 22 swaps two frets for the fuller Pattern Regular neck, and the S2 Custom 24 keeps the 24-fret Pattern Thin layout but adds a maple top and 85/15 pickups. The S2 Standard 24 Satin is the low-sheen version of this guitar.

Our pick is Black Rainbow Holoflake. One volume, one tone and a blade make for a clean layout, and the flake gives it some presence under lights.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
