Our take

Who this one is for

The S2 Standard 24 Satin is the satin-finish version of the S2 Standard 24, with a low-sheen satin nitro where the gloss model has high-gloss. Everything else carries over: a solid mahogany body, a set mahogany neck with the Pattern Thin carve, 24 frets on a 25" scale, two 58/15 LT humbuckers on a pickguard, and a PRS Patented Tremolo.

PRS Phase III Locking Tuners clamp the string at the post, so you need fewer wraps and the tremolo has less slack to settle back from. The 24-fret rosewood board has a 10" radius and bird inlays, and the Pattern Thin neck stays at 57/64" deep even at the twelfth fret, so the reach to the top of the board stays slim.

We'd suggest it to players who want a 24-fret mahogany guitar and prefer a finish that doesn't shine. If you like the satin finish but want a deeper neck, the S2 Standard 22 Satin has the Pattern Regular carve and 22 frets. The gloss S2 Standard 24 brings a different colour list, including Black Rainbow Holoflake.

Our pick is Red Apple Metallic. A bright metallic red reads well in satin, and it gives a mahogany guitar with a pickguard a lot of colour.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
