Our take

Who this one is for

The S2 Studio is the S2 line's single-single-humbucker guitar. Two PRS Narrowfield pickups sit in the bass and middle positions with a 58/15 LT humbucker in the treble position, on a maple-topped mahogany body with the asymmetric bevel carve. The set mahogany neck has 22 frets on a 25" scale, the Pattern Regular carve and "Old School" Birds on rosewood.

Pattern Regular is a fuller neck than Pattern Thin, 27/32" deep at the first fret and 59/64" at the twelfth, so there's more wood in the hand than on the S2 Custom models. PRS credits the Narrowfields with punchy single-coil sounds and scooped vintage tones, with the 58/15 LT bringing the push of a humbucker at the bridge. A 5-way blade, one volume and a push/pull tone control run the electronics, and the PRS Patented Tremolo and Phase III Locking Tuners take care of the hardware.

The Studio suits a player who spends most of a set on single-coil sounds but wants a humbucker ready for the heavier songs. Compare it with the S2 Special Semi-Hollow, which shares the middle Narrowfield and the Pattern Regular neck but puts a 58/15 LT at each end of a semi-hollow body. Our pick is Vintage Natural, which shows off the maple and sits well with the old-school birds.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
