Who this one is for

The Santana Retro looks back to the "Pre-Factory" guitars Paul Reed Smith built for Carlos Santana in the early 1980s, and PRS credits that long partnership with shaping the company. Several details from those early guitars return here: a deeper body carve, the original-style heel, and the original headstock shape and nut placement.

It's a 24-fret guitar on a 24.594" scale, so you get the full two octaves at the slightly lower string tension of PRS's shorter scale. The Santana Retro neck shape is 7/8" deep at the first fret, with PRS Jumbo fret wire on a rosewood board with birds. Santana pickups run through one volume, one tone and a 3-way toggle, and the bridge is the PRS Patented Tremolo, Gen III with Phase III Locking tuners. The Eagle headstock logo and the Santana Om symbol on the truss rod cover finish it.

This is for the player who wants 24 frets and a vibrato alongside some of the earliest PRS design. The PRS McCarty 594 shares the 24.594" scale but goes with 22 frets, a two-piece bridge and two volumes with two tones. Our pick is Santana Yellow, the finish that carries his name.

Questions we get

How much do I pay today?

Your choice: the full price, or a 25% deposit. On a deposit, the balance is due when the guitar reaches the shop, before it ships to you. A deposit is paid by card or PayPal. Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can't take one.

When will it arrive?

It varies by product, anywhere from two weeks up to several months. If you'd like a date for this model first, ask us in the chat and we'll check with the supplier before you order. If you're ready now, go ahead: we confirm the ETA by email once your order is in, and if it changes, we let you know and you can cancel.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time before the supplier invoices it and ships it to us. We refund what you paid less 3% to cover the card processing fee.

Once it has shipped to us it is a special order and final sale. If it arrives with something wrong, we put that right.

What if the price goes up before it arrives?

You pay the price you ordered at. Once your order is placed we hold that price, even if the supplier raises it before the guitar arrives.

Is the free setup included?

Yes. A pre-order is an online order, so it gets the same free setup: it crosses our bench before it ships, set up the way you choose. The setup menu above shows what that covers.

Do I pay duty or brokerage on a US order?

No. Duty, taxes, brokerage and customs on a US order are handled at our end before the instrument leaves Ottawa. It arrives at your door with nothing to pay.

Orders going anywhere outside Canada and the United States work differently. The shipping and returns policy sets out which is which.

Can I finance it?

Yes, if you are in Canada and paying in full. Pick PayPlan by RBC or Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at checkout. The plan, the rate and the approval sit with the provider, and you see the terms before you agree to anything. You pay a deposit by card or PayPal.
