The Drop Top is Anderson's S with a book-matched top bent, or "dropped", over the body back so the top follows a forearm contour. Anderson introduced it in 1990, and the top is 3/16" thick. There is no pickguard, so the whole figured top shows: quilt maple, koa or walnut.
Under it sits an alder or basswood back, with a maple neck and rosewood board on a 25-1/2" scale or the 24-3/4" Shorty, which has slightly lower string tension. Anderson's notes put alder as its most-chosen back, with the familiar S voice, and basswood as the mid-focused option.
For the same guitar with a pickguard, look at the Drop Top Classic. For a figured top on a 24-fret body, look at the Angel.
The guitar in the photo is one customer's build in Burnished Orange Burst, shown as an example. Every Anderson is built to order: after you order, we go through the build with you, from the woods and finish to the neck shape, frets, pickups and hardware.
